Peter heard the most ear piercing screech that seemed to come from all directions.  He backed out holding his head and ears.

Sweating, breathless and shaking, his sanity being obliterated, his gaze fell upon the last hut.  He didn’t want too but he knew he had to look.

The residue of the loud screeching still rang in his ears.  The stench of the rotten bodies still filled his stomach with vomit and now terror threatened to murder his soul.  Gingerly, he crept near to the doorway.

Was there any point to bracing his self?

He closed one eye, and with the other squinting.  Just as he was about to step on to the threshold, he felt a hand on his shoulder, he turned and screamed.

A haggard old woman with red eyes, the hag’s mouth gapped open to reveal blackened teeth and tongue.  She stood in front of him, she screamed in harmony with him.

She came in quickly and bit down on his neck…

Peter shot out of bed. Sandra woke up so suddenly and sat up like Frankenstein. Her voice croaky with sleep, but had a high shrill as she yelled out, ‘What the hell is going on?’ She stared at him as if he was a mad man.

He turned to her and stared back. Peter, instinctively put his hand to his neck and felt wetness. Rushing over to the dressing table he bent down to take a look in the mirror. There was a bite mark, deep and bleeding and his ears were bleeding.

Sandra got out of bed and grabbed her dressing gown. ‘Tell me now, what is going on?’

He glanced back at her for a second, ‘I have been bitten, see,’ pointing at the marks and went back to inspecting the wound.

Sandra came over, switched the overhead light on and then faced him. She put a hand on his shoulder and the other on his head to a better angle so she could see. ‘Oh dear, we need to dress that, how the hell did you get bitten…why, are your ears bleeding? I think we ought to call the doctor, you may need antibiotics…’ sounding worried, ‘how the hell, were you bitten?’ She let go of his head as she repeated her question.
