Friday Giveaway: A Christmas Romance

Posted December 9, 2022 by Lucy D in Contests & Giveaways / 6 Comments

Our winner is…Jen. Congratulations.

You thought I abandoned you, didn’t you?   I can honestly say that while I shopped the Black Friday sales, knowing it was Black Friday,  it took me another whole day to realize I forgot to post.  I decided to give myself the weekend and try and relax (didn’t happen).   Last week, same thing.  I was all “Friday!  Friday!” and it wasn’t until the end of the night that I realized that I once again ignored my Friday Peeps.  I sincerely apologize to you all.

There is a lot of good news/bad news.  Good news, my daughter got accepted to all of the colleges she applied to and just received her acceptance on her school of choice.  Bad news, I will be  paying for two kids to go to college next year and they just changed the FAFSA guidelines starting 2023/24 and you no longer receive any benefit for having multiple children in college at once.  Yeah, me.  Bad news, none of my husband’s family are ready to venture out for a big family Christmas get together.  Good news, no one is coming over for Christmas so I get a long weekend to myself and I am not even bothering to make Christmas cookies.  So there!

I know that we have discussed book funks before but the last month has hit me pretty hard.   The running around for college tours and now all the to-do with the holidays, all stacked on top of the regular day-to-day work and chores has just been too much.  My normal escape at the end of the day is reading.  There is nothing like a good story to take you out of your own daily nonsense and live another life for a time.

Problem is that of the last dozen or so books I have read, there were maybe three good stories.   I have read so many bad stories, simply tossed aside several others and I have been trying to finish this last one for over a week.  I am more than halfway done but I just can’t connect with the characters. Part of me wants to finish it up and find out more but mostly, I just want to be done with it.   I think I am just going to toss it and move on.

Enough moaning!   We have time for one Christmas-themed story which I will try to get out before Christmas hits.

Leave a comment to be entered in this week’s giveaway and if you can toss in a recommendation for a good book you enjoyed recently, you get an extra entry!

Giveaway is for a paperback copy and open to U.S. residents only.  Giveaway ends Thursday, December 15th.

A one-of-a-kind Christmas market offers holiday magic in the new romance from the author of The Kindred Spirits Supper Club.

With a name like Astra Noel Snow, holiday spirit isn’t just a seasonal specialty–it’s a way of life. But after a stinging divorce, Astra’s yearly trip to the Milwaukee Christmas market takes on a whole new meaning. She’s ready to eat, drink, and be merry, especially with the handsome stranger who saves the best kringle for her at his family bakery.

For Jack Clausen, the Julemarked with its snowy lights and charming shops stays the same, while the world outside the joyful street changes, magically leaping from one December to the next every four weeks. He’s never minded living this charmed existence until Astra shows him the life he’s been missing outside of the festive red brick alley.

After a swoon-worthy series of dates, some Yuletide magic, and the unexpected glow of new love, Astra and Jack must decide whether this relationship can weather all seasons, or if what they’re feeling is as ephemeral as marshmallows in a mug of hot cocoa.

  1. I read Christmas romances all year. Love them. Not a Christmas romance, but I recently read and really enjoyed Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross. It’s part of her Stay a Spell series… featuring witchy sisters in New Orleans. Every entry in the series has been addicting. I’ve read all of Juliette’s books and every one has been a winner in my book.

Hi Lucy, ah, the dreaded book slump. I’m in a bit of one myself, so please don’t enter me in the giveaway because I’ve already got way too many books on my TBR mountain, but if you are looking for a potential slump breaker, try The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen. It’s a quirky and offbeat fantasy romance with a sunshiny undertaker heroine and a grumpy ranger who fights zombies. It may not be to your taste but it was one of my favorite books this year.

I over commit to read and review so when I hit a book that doesn’t connect, well, I feel obligated to fight my way through it. I need to make a resolution to change this in 2023 and find a better balance.
I just finished Witcha Gonna Do? by Avery Flynn and it was fun and unexpected. It made me smile. I believe this is the first book by Avery Flynn that I have read but I’m now a fan. Have a wonderful holiday!
