Happy February!
The magical rat has spoken and we will be stuck inside for the next six weeks so we still need many, many books to help us get through it.
January was a month of surprises. I read some books that were even better than I thought and sadly, some anticipated stories didn’t live up to my own internal hype. A year of waiting for Onyx Storm and it was disappointing. Serial Killer Games was surprisingly fun. And Deadly Animals was oddly enjoyable.
It appears from Goodreads that I am “currently reading” 38 books. Yikes! I am trying hard to catch up with reviews. I am sad to admit that I am trying to clean up my eating, which I have gotten a bit slack on, and my brain is becoming a little less…fuzzy. I find that I can suddenly write a review or at least draft some notes after I finish which is allowing me to get some reviews drafted. Damn it! Why can’t fat and lazy be a good thing? Cheesecake and chocolate should be a good food group!
We have some fun stuff for this month’s giveaway. Let me know what you have on your list that should be a “healthy” food.
Giveaway ends Friday, February 28th. (Let’s get through this month quickly.) Giveaway is open to U.S. residents.
Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson –
A woman discovers that not all monsters are her enemy—the opposite, in fact—in this new paranormal romance by Lana Ferguson, author of The Fake Mate.
Keyanna “Key” MacKay is used to secrets. Raised by a single father who never divulged his past, it’s only after his death that she finds herself thrust into the world he’d always refused to speak of. With just a childhood bedtime story about a monster that saved her father’s life and the name of her estranged grandmother to go off of, Key has no idea what she’ll find in Scotland. But repeating her father’s mistakes and being rescued by a gorgeous, angry Scotsman—who thinks she’s an idiot—is definitely the last thing she expects.
Lachlan Greer has his own secrets to keep, especially from the bonnie lass he pulls to safety from the slippery shore—a lass with captivating eyes and the last name he’s been taught not to trust. He’s looking for answers as well, and Key’s presence on the grounds they both now occupy presents a real problem. It’s even more troublesome when he gets a front row seat to the lukewarm welcome Key receives from her family; the strange powers she begins to develop; and the fierce determination she brings to every obstacle in her path. Things he shouldn’t care about, and someone he definitely doesn’t find wildly attractive.
When their secrets collide, it becomes clear that Lachlan could hold the answers Keyanna is after—and that she might also be the key to uncovering his. Up against time, mystery, and a centuries old curse, they’ll quickly discover that magic might not only be in fairy tales, and that love can be a real loch-mess.
The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson –
Mackenzie hasn’t had a successful date in months. She’s only a year out of residency, and her grandmother’s obsession with finding the perfect mate threatens to drive her barking mad, so it should be a small thing when she lies about meeting someone . . . until she blurts out the name of the last man she would ever date: Noah ‘The Big Bad Wolf of Denver General’ Taylor.
Noah, interventional cardiologist and all-round grump, has spent his entire life hiding what he is – an unmated alpha. But when an anonymous tip brings everything to light, he’s left with two choices: come clean to the board and risk his career or find himself a mate. So, when the chatty, overly friendly ER doctor asks him to be her fake boyfriend the same day he’s called to meet the board, it must be kismet, right?
Mackenzie gets her grandmother off her back, and Noah gets the chance to prove he can continue to work without a real mate – it’s a mutually beneficial business transaction. But when the fake-mate act turns to a very real friends-with-benefits arrangement, lines start to blur, and they quickly realize love is a whole different kind of animal.
The Love Lyric – Kristina Forest –
An R&B singer and a corporate executive find love that hits the right notes in this romance by Kristina Forest, USA Today bestselling author of The Partner Plot.
Iris Greene used to be a woman with a plan. But all of that changed after she met the love of her life at twenty-four, got pregnant and married…and then became a widow and a single mother all within the span of a year and a half. Now, after years of hustling, Iris is the director of partnerships at a beauty company and raising spunky six-year-old Calla by herself. Despite her busy life, she still can’t help but feel lonely. She just needs to catch her breath—and one night, at her sister’s wedding, when she steps outside to do just that, she sees a certain singer who takes her breath away. . . .
By all accounts, pop R&B singer Angel Harrison has it made. He’s a successful musician and has just scored a brand ambassador deal with an emerging beauty company. But he’s still not fulfilled; he’s not producing songs he’s passionate about, and there’s a gaping hole in his love life. When he visits the Save Face Beauty office to kickstart his campaign, he’s delighted to see Iris, his stylist’s sister—the beautiful woman he’s secretly had a crush on for years.
Despite their obvious attraction to each other, they must stay professional throughout the campaign tour—which doesn’t quite pan out. But when it becomes clear their lives aren’t in sync, can they fall back in step to the same rhythm and beat?
Cheese in large quantities should always be healthy. It’s just not fair!
Sending you good vibes for your health journey! I’m also trying to make some healthy changes, I’ve noticed how much better my mood is when I get up and exercise my silly flesh prison of a body, so I’m trying to significantly up my step count from where it used to be.
“silly fresh prison” I am so stealing that…
Definitely chocolate.
