Top 5 Reasons to Love Jak’ri from The Purveli

Hello, all! Thank you for joining us. I’m thrilled to be here today, celebrating the release of THE PURVELI, the third stand-alone novel in my exciting new Aldebarian Alliance series. If you like sci-fi and paranormal romance novels that are full of action, passion, humor, and happily-ever-afters, then I think you’ll enjoy this one. (If you’re new to the Aldebarian Alliance series, don’t worry. You won’t be lost if you dive in with THE PURVELI.)

To help you get to know Jak’ri, the hero—and also pique your interest—I thought I would give you five reasons Ava falls in love with him… along with some snippets from the story.

1

He doesn’t fear love. He embraces it.

Jak’ri had admired how she’d handled captivity, the way Ava had conquered her fears again and again, the sense of humor she hadn’t abandoned in favor of despair. He’d been grateful for the reprieves she’d granted him from his own captivity in dreams, treasuring the moments of freedom they’d shared at Runaka Point. And he respected the intelligence she had repeatedly exhibited both back on the ship and here on this alien world.

He studied her from the corner of his eye. She’d pulled her long hair back in what she called a ponytail that slid this way and that across the top of her pack. Little tendrils had escaped and danced around her pretty face as a faint sheen of moisture glistened on her forehead.

Jak’ri’s heart thudded in his chest. Since becoming an adult, he had wondered periodically what having a lifemate would be like, if experiencing that depth of emotion and caring would change him in some way.

His parents’ union was a loving one, full of laughter, affection, and teasing. Throughout his life, his mother and father had shared a closeness that he’d begun to wonder if he would ever find himself, since past lovers had failed to engender those emotions in him.

But now he knew. Now he understood.

2

He’s loyal to those he loves and will do anything to protect them.

“You keep saying you instead of we.”

Jak’ri closed the incinerator. A whoosh sounded. “I’m not coming with you.”

She stared up at him. “What?”

“I’m staying here. Keep me apprised of everything telepathically as you go. If you run into any trouble, I’ll start blasting things in here, then run and draw their fire.”

“Oh, hell no!” she blurted. “We leave together or we don’t leave at all.”

“Ava, you have a much higher chance of escaping if I keep them distracted long enough to—”

Closing the distance between them, she rose onto her toes, curled her free hand around the nape of his neck, and pressed a fervent kiss to his lips.

Startled into silence, he stared down at her.

“I’m not going without you, Jak’ri. I won’t let you sacrifice yourself for me. We either escape together or we die together. Those are your two options. Time is ticking. What’s it going to be?”

3

He’s kind.

Smiling, Ava closed her eyes as weariness overcame her.

Jak’ri and his brother continued to razz each other, seeming almost to compete to see who could launch the most outrageous accusations or recount the most ridiculous stories.

Tears welled in her eyes as she realized what they were doing.

They were trying to distract her from the pain.

Trying to keep fear and despair from overwhelming her by making her laugh.

Helping her feel less alone.

And it was working, she thought moments before darkness claimed her.

4

He loves to laugh and tease, something even captivity cannot rob him of.

Jak’ri surfaced beside her a second later.

Grinning, Ava drew in deep breaths and swiped water from her face. “That was awesome!”

Once again, he found himself smiling, something he did a lot around her. “I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

“You’re so fast!”

He nodded. “You should see the Purvelis with tails. They’re even faster.”

Her mouth dropped open. “Some of you have tails?”

He grinned. “No. I just wanted to see your reaction.”

Laughing, she splashed him.

5

He’s strong, but doesn’t flaunt it.

Tilting her head back, Ava stared at the canopy. “It’s a long way up,” she commented anxiously and cursed the tiny part of herself that was relieved she wouldn’t have to make the climb herself.

He shrugged. “Heights don’t bother me.”

Amusement sifted through her. “Nothing bothers you, Jak’ri. You’re a total badass.”

He eyed her quizzically. “Is a badass a good thing? My translator isn’t clear on that.”

Ava smiled. “It’s a very good thing.”

He grinned.

Ava has always been different. Born with strong telepathic abilities, she lives a very isolated life until she is offered a job with an obscure network that aids powerful Immortal Guardians in their quest to protect humanity from the psychotic vampires who prey upon them. Suddenly, she doesn’t feel so different. For the first time in her life, Ava has found a place where she belongs. She’s happy. Life is good. And when her employers invite her to join a group of other gifted ones and a handful of Immortal Guardians on a journey to another planet, it becomes absolutely fantastic.

In no time at all, she is speeding across the galaxy aboard a Lasaran warship manned by two amazing alien races. It’s the dream of a lifetime… until a vicious attack by a mutual enemy of Lasara and Earth lands her alone in an escape pod with no habitable planet in sight and only one ship within range: one that carries the enemy who wants to know why the bioengineered virus they released on Earth long ago didn’t exterminate humanity and leave the planet ripe for their claiming.

Jak’ri doesn’t know how long he has been a prisoner aboard the Cebaun, but he fears the enemy’s twisted experiments will soon lead them to a virus that will eradicate the Purveli people. Despair grips him until a female from Earth is taken captive and reaches out to him telepathically. The gift that Ava said caused her such misery in the past soon becomes his salvation as the two of them form a fast friendship. Determined to distract each other from the horrors of their existence, they immerse themselves in telepathic communion during the day, then seek solace and adventure together in shared dreams. As their friendship deepens into love, the two hatch a daring plot to escape their captors. But the enemy will not let them go without a fight.

Can Ava and Jak’ri stand against so many and emerge victorious?
