I am enjoying Katie Ruggle’s Search and Rescue series and I am looking forward to more. There are some great characters and a real family feeling to this small town rescuers. The author does a great job cranking up the threats and tension. I was disappointed that there was some similarity to the ending of both this book and the prior book and I hope that doesn’t become a thing in this series or the stories will become predictable.
I was happy and disappointed with this novella. I was happy to see that Baby Thor and his grumpy bear boyfriend got their own story, but I would have liked more story that wasn’t just sex and the back and forth angst of will they or won’t they stay together.
This was another of those books where the main characters were just okay but it was the secondary characters that really caught my interest. I have a copy of the next book and I plan on reading that one was well. Younger sister Alex caught my attention, as well as “Baby Thor” brother Gage.

If you liked Fargo, either the movie or the TV series, you will like the writing of C.J. Box. This was my first novel from this author and at the very least, I want to read the prior novel, The Highway. Be warned, just like Fargo, it doesn’t hold back on the violence.
Although this is not an original plot, the likable characters more than make up for that. These friends have great chemistry which becomes explosive even before they actually make it to a bed. And let’s not forget a titillating game of bad cop/dirty cop.
I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying this story. After Book #1, I thought Raina would end up back together with Miah, but the polished and snobby Duncan hid a damaged psyche and his underlying insecurities made him more human and I enjoyed his damaged character a great deal.
