I have been a long time fan of Thea Harrison’s Elder Races series, but the Nightkind King, Julian Regillus, was not among my favorite characters. He was mean and intimidating and never gave that “I’m a lovable vampire” vibe, but I love when an author can change my mind about a character and in this case, she did it without changing Julian at all.
I enjoy the series but we need more character development on our main characters. We learn more about the gypsies we meet in this story, than we know about Amelie and Céline. Again, we are derailed during the climactic ending while Amelie is dragged into the killer’s past.
There is good and bad points to this series. Although I like the sisters, my biggest problem would be that they don’t make more use of their gifts and the big reveal always draws away from the momentum of the ending.
I love Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians. Richart is one of the few Guardians who can teleport. That makes him just a bit cooler than his twin, but don’t tell him I said that. I thought it was adorable that Richart develops a bit of a crush on Jenna after saving her, and even though this actions are a bit stalkerish, we know that he has a good heart.
I got tired of Alice’s naive girlish nonsense right away. Her decision to seduce Logan was completely selfish and not thought out. She was self-centered and reminded me of a more likable Lydia Bennett (Pride and Prejudice). She is playful and sweet. It was nice that she engaged Logan and was able to draw him out of his solitary life. She is too young and inexperienced to take into account the consequences that sleeping with Logan would bring for both her and Logan.
Katie Reus did a wonderful job and a not so wonderful job with this story. This might have been the first time that an author had me so excited about secondary characters that I had no real interest in reading the story in front of me.

This was supposed to be a quick sexy novella but there was nothing interesting or really sexy about this story. The only thing about this story that I would applaud the writer for is that she didn’t wait until Shelly became a size 2 for her to be the focus of these two hot men. Shelly was still hovering at 200 lbs when she started a sexual relationship with these two men.
This short novella was quite enjoyable and gives us some tropical seduction with Zachery and Annabelle. Enjoyable thought it is, it also focuses on the major flaw of the series.
This book was recommended to me and as a fan of Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instinct series, I was happy to give it a try. It was an enjoyable new adult story, but it took me awhile to come to like these characters. This is not my favorite new adult book but still much better than many of the standard tropes on the new adult shelf.
